What Is RAVS 360™ and Why Does It Matter When Hiring a Contractor?

For customers, RAVS 360 participation provides an additional level of transparency and confidence when selecting an industrial contractor.

What Is RAVS 360?

RAVS stands for Review & Verification Services. ISNetworld uses this process to review the relevant HSE programs and documentation submitted by contractors/suppliers to meet client and regulatory hiring requirements.

RAVS 360 builds upon this process. While ISN reviews all written safety policies, RAVS 360 evaluates whether the policies have been communicated to and practiced by employees across the contractor's organization.

According to ISNetworld, the evaluation consists of an interview, training documents, and supporting records based on the contractor’s scope of work. Additionally, it can involve front-line personnel to demonstrate knowledge of safety programs and provide input regarding the contractor's overall safety culture.

In simpler terms,  RAVS 360 looks beyond just what is written in a safety manual to see if there is communication and implementation of safety programs.

Why Choose a RAVS 360 Participating Contractor?

Additional safety-program review

Most contractors develop written safety policies related to job site hazards and safe working procedures. A RAVS 360 review gives customers additional assurance that the safety program is not limited to compliance but is an actual priority.

Employee knowledge and involvement

An effective safety program is dependent on the employees doing the work. Both management and front line personnel are involved in the RAVS 360 review to assess employee knowledge and obtain input on the safety culture.

Opportunities for continued improvement

Even well-established safety programs may have areas for improvement. RAVS 360 identifies potential gaps in employee training, written policy, implementing safety programs or employee awareness

According to ISN, contractors receive specific recommendations and action steps to address identified gaps and improve their safety processes.

More informed contractor selection

When looking for a contractor to hire it's not enough to compare prices and availability. Additional considerations include experience, qualifications, training, insurance, and safety performance.

As stated above, RAVS 360 provides another resource for evaluating a contractor. If a customer utilizes ISNetworld, they can access the contractor's assessment results as well as monitor the contractor's progress on outstanding issues within the system.

What Does the Recognition Mean?

Participation in RAVS 360 is no guarantee that an accident will not happen. Furthermore, according to ISN, participation in RAVS 360 does not constitute a "safety certification." 

Participation in RAVS 360 indicates that the contractor has voluntarily allowed their safety programs, documentation supporting their programs, employee knowledge and safety culture to be evaluated through a systematic review process.

If a contractor has not been designated as such, it doesn't necessarily indicate that the contractor is inherently unsafe. 

However, choosing a RAVS 360 participating contractor does increase a customer's comfort level that the contractor is interested in having their safety practices audited and identifying ways to continue improving their safety record.
